GERT JOHAN COETZEE A/W 2019

Gert Johan Coetzee is probably the most famous of all the South African designer with 180 000 followers on Instagram. Gert has always been known for making the most beautiful dresses and gowns. His design is extravagant and beautifully tailored for the female form. His collections are always a sight to behold and an extravaganza of fashion.

This year marked Gert’s 8th year showcasing with SAFW and he definitely brought his A-game. Not only did he show his usual calibre of elaborate and showstopper red carpet and bridal gowns but he also added a ready-to-wear Gert line, a menswear collection and his new ‘Gert’ men’s underwear collection.

Gert has revealed that this new collection for A/W 2019 is inspired by his travels and love for luxury and Italian style. This collection has built on his previous work with McDonalds where he explored a more playful and pop art like feel in his collection.

I have to say that out of all of Gert's many, stunning collections, I feel that this one is my favourite to date. It is eccentric enough to stop traffic whilst remaining reserved enough to be wearable on a day to day basis. I may also be a bit biased about this collection because walking the runway among models were some of my closest friends.

I have picked out a few of my absolute favourite, which I immediately fell in love with, some of which I want to own with my whole heart, I’m not sure how well my bank account will take it though 🤦‍♀️.

First is this amazing suit which was Maps’ second outfit. As per usual with Gert, the tailoring is sublime.

For me, the fabric reminded me of Michelangelo’s paintings on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. The print just screams Renaissance with its fresco like appearance and cherubic beings.

I’m pretty sure that this is one of my favourite suits ever.

Whilst I’m on the topic of that amazing suit, I would like to state that I am completely in love with this skirt and jacket variation on the theme and I would very much like to own it and wear it literally everywhere I go (see third image below)

Then my favourite of all, these amazing pants. You remember those ultra cool carpets that some kids had? The ones with roads and trees and road signs? Well this is the pant equivalent of that and I want them…badly. This was absolutely my favourite item of the entire show and i’ll be frank, I just want these pants in my closet stat.

Images from the entire show are below for you to browse through.

An easy to wear dress is always a great idea in the heat. You want something which is easy to just put on and just looks great. This particular dress is from ASOS and I did decide to belt it to give it a slightly more polished vibe. If you were after a more casual look, it would look great loose as well.

These loose fitting striped culottes are a definite must-have for any summer wardrobe. Mine are from Zara and I have to say that they have definitely paid for themselves. I wear them so often and find them so easy to wear and comfy. Stick on a pair of flats and you've got yourself an epic casual look. Stick on a pair of heels and you're evening ready.

Let's be honest, a little white dress or a little black dress is always a good idea. This particular dress is from a South African shop called YDE (Young Designers Emporium).

I absolutely love this one with its frill across the top as it just adds a little extra to an otherwise very simple outfit.

  • Dress: YDE
  • Belt: Versus Versace
  • Shoes: River Island
  • Handbag: Topshop

What could possibly be better in summer than a bright sunny yellow, summery dress?

I absolutely love this one all easy going and flowy. I also love the extra bit of detail with the addition of the extra straps.

I wore this on a Sunday with some slides snd it was incredibly easy-wearing and comfortable.

TREND ALERT: JOGGERS

Whatever you want to call them, Joggers, Sweatpants or Tracksuit pants, they're back in a big way. So the first big trend of 2018 may just be a comfortable one! Now, we aren't talking about your run of the mill joggers, definitely not those sweatpants that you wear round the house.

These are a bit more than that, a cut above the rest. You can wear them in multiple ways as well. You can wear them relaxed with some sneakers and a jersey or t-shirt or add a glitzy top and a pair of heels.

However you choose to wear them, here are some of my favourites:

TRAVEL OUTFITS FOR LONG HAUL FLIGHTS (INSPIRED BY CHIARA FERRAGNI)

IMG_5553.jpg

Over the years, I have done my fair share of long-haul flights wearing various things and many variations of outfits.

I think I may have finally found the one in this outfit though. Through trial and error (mostly error) I have found out that it is in fact rather more difficult than you might imagine to dress for a flight and maintain some sort of fashion.

I have spent a lot of time scouring the internet and otherwise doing what some might consider stalking the best dressed fashion bloggers who travel a lot. I would like to point out that I don't consider it stalking, I consider it more along the lines of learning.

The very best I found was of course none other than Chiara Ferragni of The Blonde Salad (https://www.theblondesalad.com). Her travel style is absolutely amazing and she is, in my eyes at least, the undisputed queen of travel outfits which are both comfy and stylish.

Of course her budget is perhaps a little different to the budget of the general population. However, if you can afford the head-to-toe Gucci, by all means go for it! If your budget doesn't quite extend that far, here's my cheaper and thus more budget friendly version.

1. Layering is absolutely key

You might get hot doing all the in between walking and lifting of heavy suitcases but on the plane it can get cold and you want to cuddle up and you definitely don't want to freeze on the flight. For this, I layered a T-shirt underneath my jersey so that I could easily slip things on and off.

2. Comfortable trousers

For me, leggings are not pants and I just cant wear them as pants. Perhaps it's a personal hang up about my legs. I prefer a bit more space. I opted for some comfy but very cool track pants from top shop which were comfortable and still stylish (with the addition of the Gucci-like stripes down the sides).

3. Comfy Shoes

The undisputed king of comfy shoes is undoubtedly the trainer and these Adidas Superstars are so comfy. They also slip on and off easily for security checks and whilst on the plane.

WHAT I WORE:

HOW TO DRESS LIKE HARRY STYLES: ASOS EDIT

Well, damn! That signals the end of 2017. One of the best things for me in 2017 was seeing the style evolution of Harry Styles. He is, in my eyes, the absolute King. Damn the boy can sing and he looks hella good whilst doing it.

Harry's style has always been great (bar the purple shoe disaster of 2010) and in 2017 with his solo career in full swing, he really upped his style game. He really started to express himself and his personality through his clothing. Before we knew it, the long hair was history and Harry returned with a defined jaw line and some beautifully coiffed short curls.

From that famous red gingham/plaid suit he wore for one of his many his interviews with Nick Grimshaw to that fabulous purple suit paired with some fabulous black nail polish (rumour has it he painted his own nails) that he wore for the ARIA's.

A good year for Harry, a great year for us! So if you ever wanted to recreate his style, here's the way to do it a la ASOS.
